OK, so boom. It’s official, 2019 will go down in history as one of the worst years I’ve ever had in life yet here I am at the end of it, still kicking and more optimistic than ever before. I wasn’t as productive as I wanted to be yet I learned a lot about myself, my desires and what I truly want out of life.
I managed to make some things shake in the fourth quarter and I so look forward to doing everything in my power to keep the momentum going because I’m on the cusp of greatness. I just know it… Before we hop into the next decade, I figured it’d be great to share the lessons I learned over the past 12 months.
This year I learned…
1. A lot can change in a year.
2. I am worthy (an India Arie concert was legit a HUGE turning point for me).
3. Life gets tough but persist anyway.
4. Be the kind of friend you need.
5. I’d rather be a villain than a victim.
6. We are truly the masters of our own fate.
7. If you wanted to, you would and the same is true for other humans.
8. Music is powerful: it can heal, teach and inspire.
9. There’s a difference between a mistake and a choice.
10. It’s OK to be vulnerable and it doesn’t make you weak.
11. If you let your ego lead you, you’ll end up in a place you don’t wanna be.
12. “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou
13. Not knowing what to do isn’t an excuse to remain stagnant.
14. Everything DOES happen for a reason even if the reason is that people are dumb.
15. What you seek is seeking you.
16. Resilience and restoration go hand in hand.
17. You don’t get paid for work you don’t do.
18. If folks act like they don’t know your worth, show your worth.
19. “I’m ill. Muhph*cka, I’m ill.” – Lil’ Wayne
What’s your word for 2020?
Now that we’re like a day away from next year, it’s time to make sure we’re aligning ourselves with the lives we want. We need to set our intentions and decide exactly what we want to manifest. A good way to do that is by picking a theme for the year. My theme for 2020 is simple: ELEVATION is what I’m seeking in all aspects of my life. So that’s my word of the year. All of the projects and activities I involve myself next year will have a part in elevating me personally and/or professionally.
I look forward to growing and connecting with you more next year. Thanks for rocking with my inconsistent self!
