Last week I had the honor of attending FreeingShe’s Cubicles to Cocktails event as an influencer. Yasss, you read that right. Someone thought I was cool enough to cover their event and I still can’t believe it, lol. Anyway, at Cubicles to Cocktails a group of success-minded women met up for cocktails and conversation. We not only learned about earning our worth but the importance of adding tax when conducting ourselves in our places of employment and as entrepreneurs.
Corporate and entrepreneurial experts, Julia Rock and Asheli Atkins, were there to answer our questions about asking for a raise in corporate America, determining our market value as entrepreneurs, and more. The host, Christa Clarke, also shared some interesting and informational tidbits as she moderated the discussion.
The panel also spoke about dismantling the money mindsets that hold us back from reaching our true potential. I can guarantee that you or someone you know is afraid to talk about money for whatever reason. Whether it’s shame, embarassment or simply the desire to not seem braggadocious if you’re doing well… The bottom line is simple, we need to talk about money, credit and all that. We must work together to find ways to advance ourselves as women and as members of multicultural communities. That is how we’ll be able to break the curses that plague many of our families and build generational wealth.
This week I found myself feeling the vibes I got at Cubicles to Cocktails as I was helping a co-worker navigate the decisions to pay off her credit card debt and whether or not she should refinance her car. I was able to use my previous experience in these areas to help her make more informed decisions. That’s what it’s all about… Each one teach one. I’m so happy the panelists were open to sharing their stories and using them to teach the attendees. I definitely learned a great deal.
I left Cubicles to Cocktails feeling rejuvenated and encouraged. Even though I’m personally not on the market for a new job, trust and believe that all my side hustling endeavors will see a new version of me from here on out. Moving forward, I look forward to connecting with more likeminded individuals and eventually having a mentor to help me level up in some areas.
