Adulting has taught me that life isn’t always easy. There will be days when you don’t want to wake up, go to work or leave the house but you have to do it anyway. Because… bills. Recently I noticed that I, along with many others, make life harder than it has to be. We continue to make the same mistakes over and over or we cause ourselves unnecessary stress. It’s important to be kind to yourself so I thought it’d be a good idea to share a few practices that you can start doing today to make your life a little easier.
Wake up 20 minutes earlier
Listen Lindas, I hate waking up early. I really do. But I noticed that when I give myself a little extra time in the morning, I’m not rushing to get out the house and I don’t feel stressed out when I run into traffic on the highway. Also, having a few extra minutes in the morning gives you time to make a smoothie, put on some makeup, take extra time planning a fabulous outfit, or my personal favorite – go on a donut run. So set your alarm for a 20 minutes earlier and see how life treats you.
Work out
Stretch, check out a workout video on YouTube, dance to your favorite album, go for a jog. Your options are endless when it comes to adding a workout to your day. It doesn’t have to take very long either. I suggest trying for 20-30 minutes to start and work your way up to an hour. As hard as it may be to start working out, once you’re done you’ll be glad you took the time out to take care of yourself. Eventually, you’ll start to notice results and feel those endorphins that everyone talks about start kicking in. I’m not there yet but I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
Practice your hobby or work on your side hustle
Even though it seems like I neglect this blog, I’ve been writing elsewhere I promise. A few months went by when all I did was work, eat, rest and repeat. I noticed that I wasn’t happy and that something was missing. It was writing. How could I call myself a writer when I wasn’t writing? How can one be an artist and make no time to practice their craft? If you have goals of being a full-time entrepreneur, take some time to work on your business plan, website, or whatever tools your business needs to be successful. The future you will thank you.
Limit social media usage
I love scrolling down my Instagram feed just as much as the next person but I try my best to limit my exposure to social media as much as possible. I can’t be the only one who looks at the profiles of people who appear to be living the life of my dreams and get irritated that my time hasn’t come yet. Some use social media to find out the latest gossip or post selfies multiple times per day. Whatever you choose to do on social media is your business but imagine the things you could do for yourself if you spent your social media browsing time doing something for you instead…
Eat at least one healthy meal per day and drink lots of water
When I eat a cheeseburger and french fries, it tastes really good but my body’s reaction is adverse. I usually want to take a nap or feel sluggish right after. But when I eat a salad or a meal that includes fruits and vegetables, I feel energized and ready to accomplish greatness. A cheat meal is great every now and then but if all of your meals are purchased just because you had a craving for a particular food, you may want to rethink your diet. To be honest, I’m always in the mood for fried seafood and french fries but if I ate that every day there’s no telling what my body or skin would look like. Speaking of skin, drink lots of water to help rid your body of toxins and promote glowing skin. Who doesn’t want that?
Do you practice any of these acts already? If so, what are your thoughts about them? Is there an act of kindness you think I should have included on the list that makes your life easier?
