Let’s talk about my spring twists…

This past weekend, I was blessed to attend the MyTaughtYou Retreat in Cancun, Mexico. I posted a few photos and videos on my Instagram page and the number one question I kept getting was about my hair. I plan to share my takeaways from the retreat very soon but for now, allow me to share some quick information about my new do.

I attempted a style called spring twists after seeing a few pictures of other women rocking the style. The installation process was pretty simple. You part your hair in small sections and use spring hair to do the twists. You start them off like you would a box braid and then transition to twisting. Peep below for a selfie/ closeup of my twists.

Honestly, I did NOT like my hair at first. They just didn’t come out like the #SpringTwists I had seen online so I was disappointed and wanted to schedule a last-minute professional hair appointment because my DIY skills weren’t where I needed them to be in life. But I ended up keeping them and I’m so glad I did. The main difference between how I styled my hair and the other ways I’ve seen the twists on other people is the size. I lack patience and don’t really like doing small braids on myself for various reasons. Therefore, my twists appear a bit larger than those of people who start the braids off with smaller sections.

TIPS

  • If you have long hair, you can still try this style as the hair can be stretched to appear longer than you see mine styles and each twist is actually much longer than it appears since the hair “springs” and bounces back up.
  • Use some type of styling gel and a moisturizing cream while doing your twists to help them appear more natural and to help make sure your real hair blends with the extensions. I used Let’s Jam hair gel by Softsheen Carson and it worked out pretty well.
  • When you get to the ends of your real hair while twisting, be sure to add more gel so that they won’t stick out of the twist.

Your hair may or may not look exactly like mine or the people you see in photos but it will still be a fun style to try out during these spring/summer months. It’s low maintenance, easier to take out than traditional braids and an all-around fun look!

Click here to purchase spring hair. The style can be easily be achieved with the three packs that come in a bundle but I’d recommend buying more if you want longer twists or just want to be safe.

Will you be trying spring twists?
