Over the past month or so, I’ve been along for the ride on my fiancé’s hunt for a new car and we visited practically every dealership you can think of. Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Land Rover, Mercedes, and the list continues. The Lincoln Motor Company, however, was not on our radar. To be honest, when I think of a Lincoln I think of my grandparents. No, none of my grandparents owned Lincoln’s but I’ve never seen the company market to a younger audience. I guess I’ll admit to being ignorant.
Fast forward. My fiancé decided to stray away from foreign cars to avoid spending too much on gas (I’m so proud of him) and didn’t end up with a SUV like he originally planned to purchase. Instead he’s now rolling around in a pretty tricked out Honda Crosstour. Now I’m considering getting a new car simply because my 2010 Nissan lacks all the cool technology in today’s vehicles (and I’m jealous that there’s only one shiny new car in our driveway). Today he randomly suggested that we check out the Lincoln MKC because it seemed cool online. I looked up my local dealership and did just that and boy was I amazed?
For starters, the interior decor at Planet Lincoln in Spring was beyond nice and the customer service gets a thumbs up as far as I’m concerned. We briefly met with a salesman named Alex who let me practice my broken Spanish while speaking to him. Alex introduced us to George, who was kind enough to agree to let me call him “G3” as a nickname. George showed us all the cool features on the MKC including the BLIS side mirrors with cross-traffic alert lights that let you know when there’s a car in your blind spot. The car’s SYNC with MyLincoln Touch system allowed us to look up movie times, gas stations, weather and more.
As I sat in the Lincoln MKC and admired the real wood that adorned the interior, I imagined how driving it would improve my quality of life. Like seriously. It sounds cheesy but I thought of how fabulous and safe I’d feel driving around knowing that my car could notify me when a vehicle was in my blind spot or automatically put itself in park when I opened the door in case I forgot to. I then began to think about how much I’d enjoy not spending extra money at the pump to purchase 93 octane gas. This is what I’d consider “love at first drive” and I’m so mad at myself for never considering a Lincoln before. I’m like that girl in the romantic comedy who spent the entire film looking for love and it was right in my face the whole time. I don’t actually have to overspend and find a German car-boyfriend to feel luxurious. Who would’ve thought?
The purpose of this post is to hopefully engage in some dialogue about Lincoln Motor Company and its vehicles. I’d also like to encourage you to thoroughly research all of your available options when searching for the perfect car. I must admit that in terms of luxury vehicles, I only considered BMW, Audi, and Mercedes as “top-notch” while I ignored the luxury made here in America. Shame on me! I know I’m not the only one who had misconceptions about Lincoln vehicles, I’ve asked around to confirm.
As a person who’s obsessed with brand development and marketing, I hope Lincoln takes more steps to spread the word about their cars. George at Planet Lincoln had some pretty great ideas for a commercial for the Navigator and I hope they contact him for the concept. Within the next week or so I plan to participate in #LincolnDateNight program and test drive the MKC for 24 hours before purchasing it. I’ll be sure to keep you posted because I know it’ll be an enjoyable experience.
In the meantime, what do you think about Lincoln Motor Company? Have you ever owned a Lincoln or does someone you know have one?
