I can’t even believe it’s the fourth month of 2016 already, time waits for no one… Many of us started the year with high hopes of making it one of our best yet and I’m hoping you still have that same ambition. I personally haven’t done much to accomplish my 2016 goals thus far due to a minor setback that involved my purse, planner and several other valuable items being stolen. Not only that, my work life has been disastrous and a bit depressing. I’ve decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to working on the things I love because, as I already mentioned, time is flying and I do not want to be where I am now in the near future.
“Goals are dreams with deadlines”
I saw this quote I saw a while back and it lit a fire within me. Every goal I have (personal and professional) has been written down in my new planner along with specific tasks and deadlines for their completion. May I offer you a smidgen of advice? Whatever goals you may have, apply a timeline to them. Even if the ultimate accomplishment will occur years from now, think about the small things you can do now to reach the goal in the long run. If you want to save X amount of dollars for a large purchase, start now and plan biweekly payments to make it happen. If you want a new job, do what you can to make yourself more desirable to potential employers.
Or if you want to start a business (which I’m in the process of doing) start with small tasks and give yourself a deadline for each of them. One month I created my business website thanks to WordPress making things easy for me, the next month I started my social media pages, this month I’m working on print materials and by June I’ll have my first official clients. Breaking large goals down into smaller ones makes them much easier to attain. I have some other exciting goals (related to my beauty product addiction and working with amazing brands) but I’ll hold off on sharing those for now.
If you have an abstract goal in mind with no real plan in sight, it’s not a goal it’s a dream. Let’s stop dreaming and get to work instead.
