This review is long overdue since I’ve been using so many Jane Carter Solution products for nearly three months. Although I planned to do this review in June after about a month of use, life happened (I’m talking a job hunt, travel and more) and I couldn’t find the time. I guess waiting so long to review paid off in the long run because I am more knowledgeable about the products than I was a month ago because I’ve continued use.
I’m a bit of a product junkie so I’ve used products from other lines in the past few months as well but I always find myself pairing at least one Jane Carter Solution product to create a cocktail no matter what. This alone speaks volumes so keep reading for the review(s)!
Of all the products I have, this is easily my favorite! I enjoy using Nourish & Shine for braid outs because it helps moisturize my hair and somehow helps it achieve a stretched look. This product is full of natural ingredients and has a super pleasant scent. A little goes a long way, you only need to use a small amount to achieve great results. Please note that this is for moisturizing hair and not a styling product to define curls. I prefer to braid my hair in plaits with the product and enjoy the softness after taking the braids out.
It can also be used on skin so that’s an added perk. Since it’s priced at slightly over $20, you may not be eager to utilize it for both hair and skin so if you’re balling on a budget you can do what I do… Use it for your hair and put the excess on dry skin. My feet have been loving it this summer. I keep telling my friends not to let the price of this product deter them because 1.you pay for quality and 2. there are always deals at Target and Sally Beauty Supply. You can also find it priced competitively on Amazon.
When I first tried the CDC, it was on hair that desperately needed to be trimmed. I was sad that my hair wasn’t wear-out-able and I didn’t plan on using it again because my curls were as defined as I dreamed they’d be. I got my hair cut by a Deva trained stylist in June and something told me to revisit this product and boy am I glad I did!
Jane Carter Solution’s Curl Defining Cream does just that, it helped defined my curls. Even the kinkiest portion of my hair was left defined. The only negative aspect of this product and how it worked on my hair is that it doesn’t do much in terms of me keeping my hair moisturized. I’ve solved this problem by adding a small amount of avocado oil when using it and it works just fine.
This is a light curl definer that’s intended for fine hair. I love the convenient container that this comes in because it makes application a breeze and made this product appeal to me for traveling purposes. After using it about five times, I like it but don’t love it. Did it help define my curls? Yes, but my hair seems to respond better to thicker creams. I look for more than curl definition because my hair can start feeling dry rather quickly especially in this Houston humidity. I will continue using it but not for styles that I want to last more than a day or so.
A con of the product is the $20 price, but you can check Amazon or your local Target (where you can receive a $5 gift card with your purchase of two or more JCS products if you act now) for deals.
Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner
This is a light, spritz type of conditioner and not ideal for super coarse, dry textures if you ask me. I have dry, type 4 hair but I still find myself using it when I’m headed outside because it protects against the sun (and heat for that matter). It’s a great finishing spritz, but shouldn’t be used alone if you have dry hair. It may work great for those who neat something light to help maintain moisture, but for me it seems like it’ll take a few sprays every 12 hours to achieve optimum results.
Jane Carter Solution recently released a new line of products called Healthy Hair. This line is more affordable than the original JCS product line with the average price of $11 per item. I’ve been using a few products from this line as well. What’s that? You said you want a review of those too? I got you!
Renewable Difference Detox Shampoo
Detox is the main word to pay attention to if you’re considering getting this shampoo. I’ve used it the least of all the products simply because I don’t usually have a lot of product build up so I don’t shampoo regularly. I enjoy co-washing but when I want my hair squeaky clean yet not stripped of moisture, I know I can use this shampoo. I focus on my scalp with this shampoo and let the lather it forms clean my hair. It’s a good shampoo and I can’t think of any cons to share. Since I use it once every two to three weeks, I foresee the 8 oz. lasting me for a long while.
I’m a sucker for deep conditioning treatments so I was excited to try this out. I’ve used it with my steamer and without and can say that it performs better with heat after application. When I used it without steaming my hair, my hair was left soft and manageable but it wasn’t quite as moisturized as it was with the help of steaming. This is certainly not the best deep conditioner on the market, but it’s not bad at all. It’s not my staple conditioner but I plan to use it every time I use the JCS detox shampoo because they pair well together.
Complex 4 Replenish & Repair Oil
This oil mixture contains soybean, sunflower seed, coconut oils and more. I’ve added it to the conditioning masque and used it alone as a part of the LOC method. Just last week I used it to help moisturize my hair before braiding it and all went well. It’s a good staple oil especially for new naturals because it can be used in many ways and save them money. Instead of buying tons of separate oils, you can use this blend.
Slumber Party Creamy Leave-In Conditioner
Slumber Party is known out in these streets and has high reviews pretty much everywhere I checked! It’s truly the thickest, creamiest liquid leave-in I’ve ever seen. The spray bottle it comes in had me thinking I should just spray it on my hair, but it’s best used when you spray directly in your hand and then apply it to hair. It works great for refreshing an old style before bed so you can wake up to perfectly moisturized curls. Get it? Slumber party… Soooo clever!
Love this stuff. I’ve used it as a heat protectant when blow drying my hair and to help prevent frizz when I wear twist outs. It’s great for smoothing out frizzy hair and Jane Carter Solution website says that’s it’s ideal to use this styling smoother in hair in the morning while sticking with “Slumber Party” at night. The smell is great and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Overall, I’m pleased with the Jane Carter Solution product line and some of these products are definite necessities for me. If you’re in the market for an affordable regimen, the Healthy Hair line may be perfect for you. I’m in the process of developing a regimen that I’ll stick to for a while without testing other products so pray for my self control. There are at least three of these JCS products that I’d like to add to my hair arsenal for good.
Are you a Jane Carter Solution fan? Are you interested in trying any of these products? Do tell…
